Dark Jedi use their Force for their own intentions while attempting to utilize other powers of the Force, while claiming no allegiance to either Jedi or Sith. There strength and abilities are usually untuned and can be used eratically, while a Dark Jedi can use Jedi and Sith Force arts, only a true Jedi or Sith can master them. True Sith and Jedi must be ordained and approved by their respective masters in order to gain access to the true powers of their respective organizations. They became known by the term Dark Jedi for such being able to manipulate the Force. However, many may think these persons have been a member of the Jedi Order; However, this is false as they were never actually members of either allegiance.

The Sith code consisted of the following:

"Fear leads to anger.
Anger leads to hate.
Hatred leads to power.
Power leads to victory.
Let your anger flow through you.
Your hate will make you strong.
True power is only achieved through
testing the limits of one's anger,
passing through unscathed.
Rage channeled through anger is unstoppable.
The dark side of the Force
offers unimaginable power.
The dark side is stronger than the light.
The weak deserve their fate."

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me."
